Brownie Surprise Cakes {recipe}

I love making fun treats for our family nights each week. This last week, I made a fun new cupcake and it had a fun surprise inside:

Start by mixing up your favorite brownie mix. Place a cupcake liner in each cup. Twist an oreo apart and place cookie side down (make sure you put the half with the cream on it) Fill cup up halfway with brownie mix and bake according to instructions. Finish by using a buttercream frosting with broken oreo tops (use the other half of the cookies). Pipe buttercream on cupcake and add a dusting of oreo crumbs on top.

My husband doesn’t love frosting, but said this whole combination was incredibly delicious (and rich enough to only eat one!)

Now if you want to grab some free Summer Toppers to go on your cupcakes, head over to I heart naptime where I am sharing these toppers for Jamielyn’s Hello Summer series:

Hope your summer has been great.

Little Cake Banners {easy project}

One of my favorite things to do is to take treats to others. I LOVE baking, but don’t LOVE having it all in my house. A few weeks ago, I needed a sweet little treat to say thank you to some ladies and this is what I came up with:

How sweet are those?! I baked the cake in little paper bundt pans from World Market (similar to this). Then I took some of my favorite little papers and made little banners by cutting little shapes.

I glued them to embroidery floss and tied those to cute little patterned straws with beads glued to the end.

After quickly piping some chocolate buttercream on them and placing some sprinkles on them, I placed the straws in the cake and they were ready to go.

Simple treats made a little sweeter with some Cake Banners.

Hope you find something special to try it on. :)

A Chocolate (x4) Treat {recipe}

Oh dear, I have to admit something. You remember that I had a baby 6 months ago, right?! Well, I am actively trying to shed my baby weight right now and am in a competition right now with one of my friends to see who can go without sweets the longest. BUT I have this weird thing, that I just LOVE to bake! So what’s a girl to do? I bake and give it away!

The hardest thing is when I find amazing recipes like THIS ONE that I found over at Is This Really My Life?..and I know I have to pair it up with some of my favs.

I just didn’t even know what to call this so I just kept writing chocolate over and over. SO the recipe?

I’m going to send you over to Is this really my life for the Chocolate Covered Cookie Dough Pretzel Bites. Um..does that sound like perfection. (my husband said it was) The only thing  I did different was add some sea salt to the chocolate at the end.

My chocolate cupcakes are made with a box mix! Can you believe it? BUT in addition to the ingredients that the box calls for, add in 1 box of chocolate pudding and 2 cups of milk chocolate chips. Bake them just until the cake barely holds shape. (you do not want to overcook them)

The chocolate buttercream:

3 cups powdered sugar
1/2 cup salted butter
4 tbsp. milk
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 tbsp. cocoa powder (if you want it more chocolatey, add more)
Mix all of the ingredients together. If you want it thicker, simply add more powdered sugar. If you want it thinner, simply add a little milk.

So if you LOVE chocolate. Make it all and then enjoy it for me…and let me know how it tastes! ;)
