From Rags to Riches {Project Run and Play}

Welcome to Kiki and Company! I am so happy to have you here and hope you will stick around for a bit.  So happy if you are here from Project Run and Play..and if you are not, I am STILL excited to have you here!:) This week for Project Run and Play we designed a look inspired by the movies. Growing up I had a favorite movie..Annie. I loved the story, I loved the music..I loved it all! So I have had that stuck in my mind since finding out the themes (and hoping I made it this far to show you!):)  The looks I created this week are both literally and figuratively inspired by Annie. Let me introduce you to the looks:

Does the picture on the left not scream, “Please, take me home”…and the one on the right, “I’m home!”. Let’s talk about the “Rags” portion of the title because the Annie I wanted to portray was the fiercely independent, I can do it by myself because I have had to girl. The bold patterns, exposed zipper, and leather were all meant to reflect that, while still throwing in femininity in the bubble skirt and bows.

 This is the girl who knows what she wants and has a strong, but fun, personality (which reminds me a lot of my daughter!). I even loved her dramatic stepping on her suitcases and looking on to the future where her “hard knocked life” would be put in the past.

 I had a really fun time mixing patterns and elements that showed a bit of “hardness”..ie the zipper and the leather.

 And yes, I am in love with the real model too…she has been a real trooper the past few weeks and so FUN to work with!

 Here are a few of the details..the exposed zipper, which I absolutely am in love with (can’t wait to find other things to add these to!). I also added a structured flutter sleeve on the shirt to give it more of that strong, hard, yet playful look.

The leather accessories really came together quickly and added such a unifying element to the outfit. As you know..I LOVE the little things that pull outfits together.

And then we have the Annie that everyone recognizes…in her classic little red dress.

It was so much fun putting all the little details into this dress that I thought the original lacked. I added a tuxedo pleat with 3 red buttons on the front and even more white pleating beyond that. I added a double peter pan collar and her sleeves are just so fun with the pleating detail at the shoulder.

I, again, used the circle skirt tutorial to make the dress twirl worthy..and twirl she does!

And then I added just a simple little petticoat underneath the dress to just finish off the dress.

I LOVED the differences in doing the two outfits and how they truly speak to Annies situation change. I love how she just looks taken care of and “at home” in this outfit.

A few details on this dress…the pleating of the shoulder,

and honestly my favorite part of the dress is the tuxedo pleating, buttons and collar.

And that is it! Hopefully you enjoyed a little look into the background of the outfits..why I did what I did, and NOW IT IS TIME TO VOTE! Run on over to Project Run and Play and vote on the left hand sidebar! Voting is good until Sunday evening. Thanks so much for stopping by!
