Garth Brooks, GhostTunes, and being a “Mom” #garthlovesmom

I don’t know about you, but I am a succor for a good song. Something that speaks to me as a mom is a bonus since this is the part of life that I am wading through right now. Garth Brooks just released a new album after 13 years, Man Against the Machine and on the album is a song that makes me tear up every. single. time.

“Mom” is a touching song about a conversation between God and a baby who is about to come down to earth where God tells this baby all about their mom. You can listen to an extended sample here:

Each time I hear it, I can’t help but think of MY mom and the incredible person that she is. Some of my favorite lyrics from the song:

“So hush now little baby, don’t you cry
Cause there’s someone down there waiting whose only goal in life
Is making sure you’re always gonna be alright
A loving angel tender tough and strong
It’s almost time to go and meet your mom.”

I think I have said since day one (minus a few days as a teenager) 😉 that I have the best mom out there. She is supportive, loving, watchful, happy, driven and could never imagine growing up without her example in my life.

As I think about her and the sweet example she has given me, it brings me to how I feel about being a mom myself.

But a lot of the time it’s really like herding cats sprinkled with a lot of love. Each one is so unique and so talented in different ways that as a mom, I am always looking for the ways to be “tender, tough and strong” and to help them be successful in life. Even though being a mom is stretching and at times difficult, it is also one of the most important things to me in my life. In “Mom”, Garth sings:

“You’ll never have a better friend
Or a warmer touch to tuck you in
She’ll kiss your bruises your bumps and scrapes
And anytime you hurt
Her heart’s gonna break”

I’m connected to my little munchkins in a way that is hard to describe in words. But as the doctor placed my oldest boy (and each child after that) in my arms, I knew each time that my life had just become that much more rich and full in a way that nothing else could fill it. Being a mom is the best.
