Summertime brings so many fun things, but one thing that I look forward to with my family are family movie nights! We love them. We love to snuggle up and watch fun family movies and eat snacks, so when I heard that The Land Before Time: Complete Collection DVD was being released, you know we were up for a fun movie night! Today I am going to share a fun popcorn recipe with you that you can customize to your families favorite snacks, but is perfect for any movie night.
Today we will make a Dinosaur Popcorn Cake:
Yum, right?! Popcorn cake was a huge tradition in our family growing up. We would put different things in it each time to try new things, so feel free to customize this to whatever works for your family. Growing up, some of our favorite things to add were Cinnamon Bears, Coconut, nuts, gummy bears and chocolate (once the marshmallow cools just a bit!)
SUPPLIES:
- Pop Secret Homestyle Popcorn, popped, I found mine at Walmart.
- 5 tbsp. butter
- 1 bag of mini marshmallows
- cashews
- gummy dinosaurs
- gummy eggs
- gummy sour balls
DIRECTIONS:
- Pop popcorn in the microwave. Move popped kernels to a bowl. Throw out unpopped kernels.
- In a large pan, melt butter and then add marshmallows. Stir constantly until marshmallow is smooth and melted.
- Let marshmallow cool for just a bit and then add to bowl of popcorn. Using a large spoon, coat all of popcorn with marshmallows
- Add in your gummy eggs, sour balls, and cashews.
- Once mixed all up, throw into a greased pan. (I used an angel food cake pan)
- Let harden just a bit and then transfer to a cake plate.
- I added gummy dinosaurs around the bottom with the leftover marshmallow mixture.
- You are done! Enjoy!
My kids are always excited when we have a dessert, but were especially excited to pair it with The Land Before Time movie.
Popcorn and movies are always the best, but next time, try a popcorn cake for your movie night…I know you won’t be disappointed. And one of my favorite parts is that it is less messy. 😉
