Easy and Simple Birthday Cakes

There are a few things I like to do for my kids. Okay, I kind of love it. I love making them each birthday cakes each year that encompasses their year in some way.

BUT I don’t always have time to make fancy ones. Especially when my December babies roll around. They were born on the same day, 3 years apart, so coming up with 2 cakes in a day can be tough and time consuming.

Enter the Easy and Simple Cake.

This last year, it was Maizie’s year for a friend party, so she had already celebrated her birthday earlier this day. A few days before I took her to the store and had her decide what kind of cake she wanted for her birthday. She was having a Doc McStuffins party, but also really loved watching Sofia the First, so she decided to have a Doc party with Doc cupcakes and have a Sofia the First cake with the family. Whew!

I baked up a 6″ round for each of them and frosted them up.

Maizie’s cake got a little Sofia doll and a 5:

Max is INTO Cars. A. Lot! So his naturally had some of his favs on the cake:

I didn’t even frost the sides of his cake. SIMPLE, SIMPLE, SIMPLE.

and guess what?!

They LOVED them.

and bonus…they both had a few new toys to play with afterwards.

SO if you are short on time, pick up their favorite toy for the year..or right now..and simply put it on top of a small frosted cake (that you can buy or make!)
